What if your song was the soundtrack to their favourite movie?

If you want people to feel it, borrow the emotion from a scene they already love.

🎦 How to create a similar Reel:

  1. Find clips from movies or series that match your song’s vibe (YouTube is a great place to search and download from).

  2. Add your song on top of the clips so it feels like the soundtrack to those moments.
    ​
  3. Make sure to add text on screen + in the caption, making it clear the song is yours, and that it’s out on Spotify/Apple/etc.

  4. If you use a trending or current show/movie, your chances of going viral are even higher.

Here's the hard truth: you could have the best song ever written, but if nobody knows it exists, it might as well not exist at all.

When I first started releasing music, I thought great music would naturally find its audience.

I was wrong. I released my first single with zero marketing plan, posted it on Facebook, and waited.

The result? Zero streams. Zero listeners. Zero impact.

That's when I learned that awareness isn't about luck or going viral - it's about consistently putting your music in front of the right people.

Think of it like this: every big artist you admire had to start from zero followers.

The difference between those who made it and those who gave up is that they understood that building awareness is a skill you can learn and practice every single day.

The music industry has changed. You don't need a record label or a huge budget to get your music heard.

What you need is a strategy and the commitment to show up consistently.

Social media, playlists, collaborations, live performances - these aren't just "nice to have" anymore.

They're essential tools for any musician who wants to turn strangers into listeners, and listeners into fans.

So if you've been waiting for the "perfect moment" to start promoting your music, or hoping that somehow people will just discover you - stop waiting.

The musicians who succeed are the ones who take action daily, even when it feels uncomfortable.

​7 actions you can take TODAY to create awareness (without waiting for luck)

1) Post consistently on social media
​
​
​Pick ONE platform and commit. Social media platforms reward frequent posting, but don’t burn yourself out - always prioritise quality over quantity.
​

Learn when your audience is most active on each platform, and post at those times so people actually see your content.

2) Collaborate with other artists

Find the ones that match your genre, engage genuinely, and share your music when it makes sense.

Reddit’s r/WeAreTheMusicMakers (1.7M members) has weekly promotion threads.

r/IndieMusicFeedback requires you to comment on 5 posts before sharing (enforced by bots).

Discord servers like β€œMusic Feedback” (2,861+ members) offer daily feedback sessions.

4) Get featured on music blogs

You don't need to be famous to get featured. There are hundreds of indie music blogs looking for new artists to write about.

Research blogs in your genre, pitch them your song with a short, personal message, and follow up if you don't hear back (You can use SubmitHub to find blogs)

5) Submit to playlists

Skip the 0.01% odds of Spotify editorial.
​
Playlists are one of the best ways to get your music in front of new listeners.
​
Submit to Spotify's editorial playlists through Spotify for Artists, and reach out to independent playlist curators on platforms like SubmitHub or Instagram.

Find curators by searching genre keywords on Spotify, checking artists’ β€œDiscovered On” sections, or by looking at your favourite playlists.

6) Perform live (online and offline)

Live performances create connection. If you can't book a local gig, go live on Instagram or TikTok.
​
Invite your followers, play a few songs, and interact with the audience.
​
It's simple, but it works.

For local gigs, find venues ot promoters in your area, and reach out.
​
Build an EPK with 2-3 song, professional photos, and a genre-specific bio under 150 words.

7) Reach out to radio stations and podcasts
​
​
College radio is still relevant.
​
Reach out to your local station with a short, professional email. Include a 320kbps MP3 of your song (or a downloadable link), a brief bio, and your contact info.

Keep it simple but clear - program directors receive dozens of submissions every week.

If you live in the UK, BBC Introducing is one of the best opportunities available. They accept submissions from artists of all genres, with 32 local stations across the country.

Countless artists - from Ed Sheeran to Florence + The Machine first broke through thanks to BBC Introducing.

Tip: Always research the specific DJ or show that fits your genre, and mention it in your email. A personal touch goes a long way.
