Welcome [back] to another week of your weekly dose πΆ
Every Tuesday, Iβll be sharing tips, updates, and must-know music marketing insights to help you get your music heard!
The main question I tried to help her answer was: "How come her videos keep going viral, but her streams barely move? And how do we fix it?"
Next week, I'll give you tips on how to actually go viral. But first, you need to understand how to turn virality into streams and real fans.
β One of the biggest mistakes many musicians make is posting content just for the sake of it.
Iβve been there, and I know how tempting it can be. β The numbers might give you a temporary ego boost, making you feel like you're making progress. β But instead of achieving consistent, meaningful growth, you often end up with results that donβt really meet your expectations and slow down your progress.β β There are 7 different types of content, and promoting your music is just one of them. β βEach type serves a specific purpose:
Helping you reach new audiences.
Nurturing relationships with your current fans.
Driving sales for your music or shows.
Your goal should be to find the right balance between these different content types. β This approach allows you to consistently attract new fans, deepen their connection with you as an artist, and ultimately sell your music or tickets. β You need to create a system that runs smoothly, without stressing over every new post. β Itβs not easy, and it takes time, but itβs essential. Otherwise, you risk posting like an amateur, and instead of making this year your breakthrough, you might find yourself stuck until 2030 - or worse, giving up because nothing seems to work.
β What are the 7 types of content, and how does each of them help you with getting discovered, nurturing, and selling? β β 1. Behind the Scenes: Create better connections with your audience, show them your life, behind the scenes of shows etc. If you have interesting stories or a journey, you might attract people who donβt know you yet.
βExample β β β2. Engagement Content: The algorithm cares about engagement more than anything. If you want to become viral, you have to have engagement. comments, shares, saves, dms, remixes, duets. You need content that encourages your audience to engage with your content. β βExample β β β3. Funny Videos and Trending Sounds: These will attract mainly other musicians, who can relate to your journey, but would also show your loyal fans what itβs like being you. β βExample β β β4. Song Promotion: The most important type of content, and this is why most of the content ideas are this type - simple, promote one of your songs. When you release a new song, this is the type of content that you should be focusing on. β βExample β β β5. Show Your Skills: As a musician, you have to be skilled in something. Singing, songwriting, producing, playing an instrument, anything. If you are not good enough, then spend more time getting better! So many musicians became what they are today because they started by doing covers. If you are really good, you will easily attract an audience.
βexample β β β6. Talking to the Camera: This is similar to behind-the-scenes, but I decided to put it in a different category because it requires much less work, and itβs not necessarily related to your career. Itβs simply just talking to the camera about a topic that will ignite a conversation in the comments. β βexample β β β7. Tutorials/Recommendations: Similar to trending sounds, this content has the potential to attract mainly other musicians, which is good for building a community of musicians and creating collaboration opportunities. For non-musicians, it can be good behind the scenes to create a deeper connection with your audience. β βexample β β βStart scrolling on TikTok or Instagram Reels and pay attention to the different types of content musicians are making.
Figure out which 2-3 types would fit your brand best and that you can actually create consistently for months without burning out.
When you release a new song, focus on promotional content. Between releases, focus on gettingdiscovered and building real connections with your audience.
Next week, I'll share the specific things that make sure your content actually reaches the right people.
Your Weekly Reel Idea
The one-word-lyrics video is a concept I've seen floating around forever - and surprisingly, with the right song, it actually works really well.
You can use CapCut to generate lyrics automatically, then pick one of their free templates that shows the words on screen one by one.
